Spring (Okay, With Caution)

• • Early spring can work — before new buds swell.

• • Avoid pruning after growth begins, as it can weaken the tree.

Good for: Light touch-ups and removing winter damage.

Summer (Use Care)

• • Best time for removing dead limbs or shaping after the flush of spring growth.

• • Avoid trimming during hot, dry spells.

Useful for: Visibility improvements, canopy thinning, or safety trims near homes and wires.

Fall (Least Ideal)

• • Pruning stimulates new growth just as trees should be slowing down.

• • Higher risk of fungal infections during the wetter season.

Wait until winter unless there’s a safety issue.
