Painesville is the Lake County seat, sitting about 15 miles north of our Chardon base. We take Route 44 straight up through Concord Township to get there, and it is a quick drive that puts us on site fast for both scheduled work and emergency calls. The city itself is compact and densely built, with the Grand River cutting through the northern edge on its way to Fairport Harbor and Lake Erie. Painesville Township wraps around the city on three sides and has a very different feel, with larger lots, more open land, and newer subdivisions mixed in with older homesteads.
Downtown Painesville and the surrounding older neighborhoods have some of the most challenging tree work in Lake County. The homes along Washington Street, Mentor Avenue, and in the streets near Lake Erie College were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and many of them have massive trees growing within feet of the structures. We are talking 80 foot tall red oaks, sugar maples with 4 foot diameter trunks, and tulip poplars that tower over two and three story homes. Removing those trees requires precision rigging to lower every piece with ropes. There is no room to fell anything, and the proximity to power lines adds another layer of complexity. This is exactly the kind of work where Wes’s 14 years as an electrical lineman makes a real difference. He has spent his career working safely around energized lines, and that experience translates directly to residential removals in tight urban lots.
The Grand River corridor creates a distinct microclimate through Painesville. The river valley funnels wind, and the moist bottomland soils along its banks support dense stands of sycamore, cottonwood, box elder, and black walnut. Properties along River Street and in the neighborhoods between the river and the bluffs deal with trees that grow aggressively in the rich alluvial soil but are prone to failure because the ground stays saturated. Box elder in particular is a nuisance tree here. It grows fast, seeds everywhere, and splits apart in storms. We remove a lot of box elders in Painesville that homeowners inherited when they bought the property and have been dealing with ever since.
Out in Painesville Township, the tree work shifts to larger scale projects. There are still active farms and large parcels being subdivided for development along Fairport Nursery Road, Hardy Road, and Bowhall Road. We do selective lot clearing for builders and homeowners who want to open up a building site while keeping mature trees for shade and screening. We also handle fence row cleanup and hedgerow removal for agricultural properties. The township has pockets of heavy clay soil interspersed with sandy outwash deposits near the old lake plain, and the tree species change depending on what the ground is doing. You will find beech and hemlock on the well drained knolls and silver maple and swamp oak in the wet spots.
If you are in Painesville or Painesville Township and need tree work, give us a call at (440) 901-0995. Wes will come out, walk the property with you, and tell you exactly what he recommends and what it will cost. No pressure, no upselling, just an honest assessment from someone who does this work himself every day.

What Homeowners Say
“Wes and his crew brought down a very large dead branch for us. Due to its location near a ravine, pond and waterfall the process needed to be strategically considered. Three other companies were not willing to take it on. He spent considerable time thinking it through and brought it down perfectly! He was very careful about not breaking surrounding foliage and the area was well cleaned up! I was extremely concerned about damage to my perennial garden and pathway but they were very careful about protecting it. He was very communicative and personable and we would not hesitate to have him do work for us in the future. His price was very reasonable. Highly recommend him and his crew!! May 2025”

“Fantastic service! Wes and crew have done a great job both times they have come out. They were also able to coordinate with service for a neighbor each time as well. Always professional, good communication, and did a fine job cleaning up afterwards. Thanks!”

“I highly recommend Wes and his guys at All Trees Considered! He knows what he's doing, and he cares. They've been here twice now, and both times, it's been a wet muddy mess. They have done a great job cutting down some dead trees in our hill both times and always do a great job cleaning up. When another company said they would need to use a crane, Wes did not. He did a great job without one. His prices are fair and reasonable! We would certainly use him again! Thank you, Wes!”
