What Insurance Usually Covers, and What It Usually Doesn't

Every policy is different and your adjuster has the final say, but the pattern on most Ohio homeowner policies is consistent. If a tree falls on a covered structure (house, garage, shed, fence), removing the tree from that structure and the damage it caused is usually covered, minus your deductible. If a tree falls in the yard and hits nothing, removal is usually on you, or capped at a small amount. A standing tree that you want removed because it looks risky is almost never covered.

Knowing that before you call saves a lot of frustration. It also tells you what to ask us for.

What We Give You for the Claim

  • Photos before any cut, showing the tree, where it landed, and the damage
  • A written description of the tree, the failure, and the work required
  • An itemized invoice that separates removal from the structure, debris hauling, and any other work, so the covered and non-covered parts are clear
  • A split invoice when you need the structure removal billed on its own for the adjuster
  • Proof of insurance on request, since adjusters sometimes ask

Emergency First, Paperwork Second

If a tree is on your house, the first job is making the house safe: getting weight off the roof, keeping water out, and stopping further damage. Insurers expect you to prevent additional damage, so that part should not wait for an adjuster. Call us, we photograph everything before we touch it, and the documentation goes with you to the claim. For the full order of operations after a storm, read what to do with a downed tree.

How It Works

  1. Call (440) 901-0995. If there is active danger, say so, and we treat it as an emergency.
  2. Wes photographs and documents the scene before work starts.
  3. The tree comes off the structure and the site is cleaned up.
  4. You get the itemized invoice and photos for your claim. If your adjuster has questions, they can call us.

One Honest Note on Deductibles

If the removal costs less than your deductible, a claim may not be worth filing. We will tell you the number up front so you can decide before the paperwork starts.

“We're in Maple Heights, not his usual service area but he did come out and give us an estimate and found a time that worked great for us. No heavy equipment, just Wes and a helper, amazing to watch him work. Got hit with a big thunderstorm and he still finished the job. Guy really knows what he's doing, highly recommend!”

FAQ

Insurance Claim Tree Work Questions

Common questions homeowners ask about insurance claim tree work service.

Should I call my insurance company or a tree service first?

If the tree is on the house or there is active danger, call us first so the structure gets secured and photographed. Then call your insurer. Our photos and write-up are what the adjuster will ask for.

Will you talk to my adjuster?

Yes. Give the adjuster our number. Wes can explain the work and the invoice directly.

Do you bill the insurance company directly?

No. You pay for the work and submit our invoice and photos to your insurer for reimbursement. That keeps it simple and is how most homeowner claims work.

Can you split the invoice between the structure removal and the rest?

Yes. Tell us what your adjuster wants separated and the invoice comes that way.

A neighbor's tree fell on my property. Whose insurance pays?

In most cases, yours. Ohio treats a healthy tree falling in a storm as an act of nature, so each owner claims their own damage. If the neighbor's tree was visibly dead and they had been warned, that can change. Your adjuster makes that call; we document what we see.
