Eastlake sits just south of the Lake Erie shoreline in western Lake County, a compact, densely built residential city where most of the housing stock went up between the 1950s and 1970s. The lots are small by Geauga County standards, typically 60 to 80 feet wide and 120 to 150 feet deep, and the trees that were planted when those houses were built have had 50 to 70 years to grow. What started as a 2-inch caliper nursery maple is now a 28-inch trunk with a 50-foot canopy spread hanging over the house, the neighbor’s fence, and the power lines running down the street. That is the reality of tree work in Eastlake: every job is a tight-access job.

Proximity to Lake Erie shapes the growing conditions and the weather exposure in Eastlake differently than in our inland Geauga County service areas. The lake moderates temperatures, giving Eastlake slightly milder winters and cooler summers than Chardon, but it also delivers persistent wind off the water. Trees in Eastlake develop asymmetric canopies, growing preferentially away from the prevailing northwest winds, and the constant wind loading makes branch failures more common on the windward side. Norway maples, silver maples, and green ash are the dominant street and yard trees here, all of which were planted heavily in the postwar suburban boom and all of which have structural weaknesses that become dangerous at full maturity.

The green ash population in Eastlake has been devastated by emerald ash borer, just like everywhere else in northeastern Ohio, but the impact is more acute here because the lots are so small. A dead ash tree in a Huntsburg woodlot might stand for years before anyone bothers with it. A dead ash tree in an Eastlake backyard is 15 feet from the house, leaning over the kids’ swing set, and needs to come down now. We have removed hundreds of dead ash trees in similar neighborhoods, and Wes knows how to assess the structural integrity of dead wood before climbing. When the trunk is too compromised to climb safely, he rigs from adjacent trees or uses ground-based techniques to bring it down in controlled sections.

The streets in Eastlake’s neighborhoods, particularly through the areas south of Stevens Boulevard and around Eastlake North High School, have overhead utility lines on both sides, leaving almost no clearance for a bucket truck or crane. This is where Wes’s lineman background becomes the deciding factor. Other tree companies look at a 70-foot silver maple wedged between a house and a power line and quote a crane at $2,000 before they even start the tree work. Wes climbs it, rigs it, and takes it apart piece by piece because that is how he was trained to work for 14 years on energized utility systems. The result is a safer removal at a lower cost on lots where heavy equipment cannot operate effectively anyway.

Stump grinding is a popular standalone service in Eastlake because the small yards mean old stumps are always in the way. They interfere with mowing, they trip people, and they take up space in yards where every square foot matters. We grind stumps 6 to 12 inches below grade and backfill with the grindings so the area can be seeded or sodded. Whether you need a tree taken down, a dead ash removed before it falls, storm damage cleaned up, or old stumps ground out, call Wes at (440) 901-0995. We are about 20 minutes from Eastlake and work in the area regularly.

“I highly recommend Wes and his guys at All Trees Considered! He knows what he's doing, and he cares. They've been here twice now, and both times, it's been a wet muddy mess. They have done a great job cutting down some dead trees in our hill both times and always do a great job cleaning up. When another company said they would need to use a crane, Wes did not. He did a great job without one. His prices are fair and reasonable! We would certainly use him again! Thank you, Wes!”
