Parkman Township occupies the southeastern corner of Geauga County, bordered by Trumbull County to the east and Portage County to the south. The landscape here is distinct from the rest of the county: flatter terrain, larger agricultural parcels, and a patchwork of Amish and non-Amish farms separated by mature tree lines. Route 528 runs north-south through the township and connects to Route 422 to the south, making Parkman accessible from our Chardon base in about 25 minutes heading southeast through Middlefield.

The farming character of Parkman shapes the kind of tree work we do here. Rather than residential yards with ornamental plantings, most calls involve large trees near working structures: century-old sugar maples shading farmhouses, black walnuts growing too close to barn foundations, and rows of Osage orange and honey locust that were planted as living fence posts generations ago and have since grown into full-sized trees. Black walnut removal is especially common because the roots produce juglone, a chemical that kills tomatoes, peppers, and other garden crops. Farmers and hobby gardeners in Parkman call us to remove walnuts that are poisoning their growing areas.

The soil across most of Parkman is Ellsworth and Mahoning series, heavy clay that stays wet through spring and drains slowly after summer storms. Trees growing in this clay develop spreading lateral root systems rather than deep taproots, which means they are more susceptible to windthrow during severe weather. We see this pattern every year: a line of thunderstorms moves through in July, and oaks or maples that looked perfectly healthy are suddenly lying across driveways or leaning into power lines. Wes spent 14 years as an electrical lineman before starting All Trees Considered, so working around energized lines is something he trained for, not something he guesses at.

Parkman also has significant stands of beech and hemlock along the upper reaches of the Cuyahoga River’s east branch, which flows through the western portion of the township. Beech bark disease has been spreading through northeastern Ohio’s beech populations, creating trees with compromised bark that eventually die from secondary fungal infections. If you have beech trees on your property that are showing the characteristic pockmarked bark or canopy dieback, it is worth having Wes take a look. Early assessment can help you plan removals before a diseased tree becomes a hazard.

Stump grinding is a regular part of our work in Parkman, especially on properties where old stumps sit in fields or along lanes and interfere with mowing or equipment access. We grind below grade so the area can be seeded, filled, or driven over without issue. Whether it is a single stump from a recent removal or a half dozen old ones scattered across a property, call (440) 901-0995 and Wes will come out to take a look.
