Chester Township, commonly known as the Chesterland area, covers about 25 square miles of western Geauga County between Chardon to the east and the Cuyahoga County line to the west. It is only 8 miles from our Chardon base, and we are down here working multiple times a week. Route 322 (Mayfield Road) runs east to west through the heart of the township, and most of the residential development clusters along that corridor and the roads feeding off it, including Caves Road, Sherman Road, and Cedar Road.
What makes Chester Township distinct from a tree work perspective is the density of the canopy on residential lots. The township never went through the kind of large scale subdivision development that cleared land elsewhere in the county. Instead, homes were built individually on wooded one to five acre parcels, and the surrounding forest was largely left intact. The result is houses sitting in the middle of mature hardwood forest, with red oaks, white oaks, sugar maples, and American beeches towering 70 to 90 feet overhead. Living among those trees is beautiful, but it comes with constant maintenance. Deadwood falls on roofs, branches scrape siding during wind events, and entire trees fail during ice storms.
The Chagrin River’s upper branches flow through Chester Township, and the terrain along those stream corridors is hilly with sandstone ledges and shale outcrops. The area around Caves Road in particular has dramatic topography where the streams have cut through the bedrock. Trees growing on these slopes have limited root depth because they hit rock a few feet down, which makes them more susceptible to windthrow than trees on flat ground. We do a lot of hazard tree assessment in these ravine areas, identifying which trees are a genuine risk and which ones just look scary but are actually well anchored. Not every tree leaning over a house needs to come down, and Wes will tell you honestly which ones do and which ones just need some weight removed from the canopy.
Chester Township sits in the transition zone where the Geauga County snowbelt begins to intensify. The township gets more snow than communities just a few miles west in Cuyahoga County, typically 60 to 80 inches per winter, with occasional lake effect events that dump a foot or more overnight. That snow load combined with the ice events that hit this part of the county creates steady demand for storm damage cleanup from November through March. We also see a significant number of white pine failures in Chester Township during winter storms. White pines were planted extensively as windbreaks and property screens in the 1960s and 1970s, and many of them have reached the age where they become brittle and prone to snapping at mid trunk.

What Homeowners Say
“I would highly recommend All Trees Considered for any trimming or tree removal needs you have. Wes and his team showed up at the time given and worked constantly throughout the day. One large tree that was endangering our barn and the neighbors fence had to be taken down. Two other trees had to be significantly pruned and a third in the woods near the house had to be taken down and removed. All branches were trimmed and put through the chipper. All debris was carefully cleaned up. Everyone on the team made it a point to greet us at some point during the day. All were pleasant and courteous. Neighbors who were watching the work approached Wes as potential customers. They obviously were impressed with the workmanship on display. It was a pleasure doing business with this company and I will definitely call them again when I need more work done.”
