LeRoy Township sits at the crossroads of rural Lake County and the western edge of Geauga County’s wooded interior. Vrooman Road runs through the heart of it, and once you get off the main roads, the properties open up into 3 to 10 acre parcels with long gravel driveways tunneling through dense stands of sugar maple, red oak, shagbark hickory, and black cherry. This is horse country and hobby farm territory where people moved specifically for the privacy that a heavy tree canopy provides.

That canopy comes with obligations. Long wooded driveways are especially vulnerable to storm damage because falling trees and heavy limbs can completely block the only way in or out of a property. We work in LeRoy Township regularly clearing hazard trees that lean toward driveways, deadwooding canopy branches that hang over access roads, and removing storm damage after the summer convective storms that track across the Grand River valley. When a storm drops a 24 inch diameter red oak across your driveway at 10 PM and you cannot get out for work in the morning, a fast response from a local crew matters more than a low bid from someone three counties away.

The emerald ash borer wave hit LeRoy Township particularly hard because ash was one of the dominant species in the mixed hardwood forests here. Whole stretches of woodland have standing dead ash mixed in with healthy trees. On rural properties, some of these dead ash are close enough to outbuildings, fences, or pasture areas that they need to come down, but far enough from the road that a bucket truck cannot reach them. That is where Wes’s climbing background becomes essential. He ropes up and takes these trees down in sections from the canopy, controlling every piece on the way down, even in spots where equipment access is limited.

LeRoy Township’s soil profile is a mix of Mahoning silt loam and Ellsworth silt clay, both of which retain water and stay soft after heavy rain. That saturated soil combined with shallow root plates means windthrow is a real concern during spring and fall storms when the ground is wet and the wind picks up. Trees that look perfectly healthy can tip over root ball and all when the soil gives way. If you have a large tree within striking distance of your house and the base sits in soil that stays wet, it is worth having Wes take a look before the next storm season.

From Chardon, LeRoy Township is a straight shot east on Route 322 to Vrooman Road, about 15 minutes of driving. We are out here often enough that we know the back roads and which properties have access challenges. Whether it is a single hazard tree near the barn or a full driveway clearing after a storm, Wes handles every estimate and every job personally.

“Great work from Wes and his crew removing three trees from my property. Wish I could have been home to watch it! Definitely a very tight area to work in. Will definitely utilize and recommend All Trees Considered. Great communication from Wes throughout whole process! Thanks again!”
