Tree removal in Northeast Ohio usually runs from a few hundred dollars for a small, easy tree to several thousand for a large one hanging over a house. How It's Priced
What Actually Sets the Price
Height and mass. A 70-foot oak is not twice the work of a 35-foot one, it is several times the work. Taller trees mean more time in the canopy, more rigging, and more wood on the ground to clean up.
Access. A tree in an open yard can often be felled in one or two cuts. A tree hanging over your roof, a fence, or a garden has to come down piece by piece on ropes, controlled the whole way. That is skilled, slow work, and it is the single biggest reason two trees the same height get very different quotes.
Condition. A dead or storm-damaged tree is unpredictable. Brittle wood and hidden rot make it slower and more dangerous to climb, so it prices higher than a solid, living tree of the same size.
Species. Oak, hickory, and elm are dense and heavy. Pine and spruce come apart faster. Same height, different day.

What Your Tree's Situation Does to the Price
Two trees the same height can be a thousand dollars apart. Almost always, the difference is what surrounds the tree, not the tree itself. Here is how the common situations in a Northeast Ohio yard change the number.
Close to the house or garage
A tree that can drop into open lawn is the cheapest job there is. A tree leaning over your roof, deck, or garage has to come down in small pieces, each one roped and lowered by hand. That control is skilled work, and it is the single biggest reason a quote climbs.
Over or near power lines
Trees tangled in utility lines add real cost and real risk. Wes spent 14 years as an electrical lineman, so he knows how to work around energized lines and when the power company has to de-energize first. If the line belongs to the utility, they may handle their side at no charge to you.
Dead or storm-damaged
Dead wood is brittle and unpredictable, and a tree that already partly failed is holding tension in ways you cannot see from the ground. Several trees at once
Getting a crew and equipment to your property is a fixed cost whether it is one tree or six. So the first tree carries most of the setup, and each one after it is cheaper. If you have a row of ash to clear or a lot to open up, quote them together and the per-tree price drops.

What the Trees in Geauga & Lake County Cost
Oak and hickory. Our area is full of mature hardwoods, and they are dense and heavy. A big oak is more wood per foot than almost anything else on the property, so a mature oak removal usually lands in the middle to upper part of the ranges above.
Maple and ash. Maples are everywhere here and generally straightforward. Ash is the story of the decade. The emerald ash borer killed ash trees across Northeast Ohio, and dead ash gets brittle fast. If you have a standing dead ash, it is safer and cheaper to take down sooner than later.
Pine and spruce. Softwoods come apart faster and lighter than hardwoods, so a pine often costs less than an oak of the same height. Tight rows of pines along a property line are the common local job.
Because hardwood and multi-tree work is so common here, quoting several trees in one visit is where the pricing gets efficient. If you are clearing more than a tree or two, look at lot clearing instead.

Permits, Insurance, and When Removal Costs Nothing
Do you need a permit?
For a tree on your own residential property, most Geauga and Lake County townships do not require a permit to remove it. Some communities have tree ordinances, right-of-way rules, or protections near wetlands and roads, so if the tree is near the street or a property line it is worth a quick call to your local zoning office. Will insurance cover it?

Two situations come close to free. If a tree is threatening the utility's power lines, the electric company may clear their side at no charge. And if a covered event brought a tree down on your home, insurance may pick up the removal minus your deductible. Ask before you assume either way.

How much does tree removal cost in Northeast Ohio?
Most single-tree removals in Geauga and Lake County run somewhere between about $300 for a small, easy tree and $2,500 or more for a large one leaning over a house. How much does it cost to remove a large oak tree?
A big mature oak, the kind that stands 60 feet or taller, usually falls in the $1,500 to $3,500 range, and more when it hangs over a house or has to come down over power lines. Oak is dense, heavy wood, so a mature oak is more work than a pine of the same height. The exact number depends on where it can drop and what is underneath it.
What makes one tree cost more than another to remove?
Four things do most of the work. Height, because a taller tree is more wood and more time in the canopy. Access, because a tree in an open yard can be felled in one piece while a tree over your roof has to come down limb by limb on ropes. Condition, because a dead or storm-damaged tree is unpredictable and slower to climb safely. And species, because oak and hickory are dense and heavy compared to pine.
Does the removal price include the stump?
No. Stump grinding is a separate service, and the calculator keeps it separate so you can see both numbers. Grinding runs about $4 to $7 per inch of stump diameter with a minimum charge. If you want the stump gone too, Wes can quote the removal and the grind together as one price so there are no surprises after the tree is down.
Is cleanup and hauling included?
Yes. Every removal includes hauling the wood and brush and leaving the site clean. If you want to keep the logs for firewood, say so and Wes will buck them to length and stack them for you at no extra charge.
Is emergency or storm removal more expensive?
It can be. A tree that already came down on a house, a car, or across a driveway is unstable and has to be taken apart carefully, often after hours, so it prices higher than the same tree removed on a planned schedule. If a structure was hit, homeowner insurance frequently covers it. Our storm cleanup service handles these and provides the documentation for a claim.
Do you need a crane for a big tree?
Usually not. Wes climbs and rigs trees that other companies quote a crane for, using 14 years of experience from working as an electrical lineman. That often keeps the price down and keeps heavy equipment off your lawn. When a job genuinely calls for a crane, he will tell you straight.
